Loving Forty-Four Q&A

Your name:
Alex Hopwood.

Where are you from:

We're from East London and Essex, England.

Name of band:
Loving Forty-Four.

Who else is in your band?
Jamie Simes (guitar/lead vocals), Charlie 'Bushman' Bowden (bass), and I play drums/backing vocals.

How would you describe yourselves?
The best way I can describe our sound is dirty alt rock with grunge and hard rock undertones. We have deep, bold bass lines that, in addition to our raw, powerful drums create a massive, energetic rhythm section. On top of that, eerie vocals and sharp, aggressive guitar riffs complete our sound.

Who are your main influences musically?
We 're influenced by everyone from Nirvana to Black Sabbath, Mudhoney, The Ramones, Alice In Chains and everyone in between.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We want to make people happy. Growing up listening to bands has shown us that music is such a powerful tool and it makes people happy. We play for the fans and as long as people want to listen to us, we will play.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
The release of our first EP and the amazing reaction we have received from it is definitely the highlight of our career. It's humbling to hear from complete strangers who love our music as much as we do. There are so many other highlights such as every single show we've played our hearts out at.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
We were playing a show in Brentwood and on the last song of our set, I managed to snap the chain on my kick pedal completely. Luckily the guitarist from our support band, like a hero, jumped onstage, grabbed a spare drum stick and started smashing the bass drum to keep the song going. On second thoughts, I'd like to remember that!

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Poppy. This song from our first EP represents everything this band does. It's loud, angry and energetic and we love seeing people completely loose it when we end our set with it.

Where can we listen to it?
It's available to stream/download here on our bandcamp page, along with the rest of the EP.

Anything else you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?
We hope people like what we do as much as we do. We've got tonnes of shows coming up and we would love to see new faces at them!
